For machines equipped with an optional air conditioning system, the compressor (1) is located in the front of the engine compartment. The compressor is driven by a belt which is connected to a pulley on the front of the engine. The compressor is used to change the refrigerant from a low pressure, low temperature vapor to a high pressure, high temperature liquid. The condenser coil (2) on the D9R (7TL and8BL) is located behind the radiator. The condenser coil changes the refrigerant from a high pressure, high temperature vapor to a high pressure, high temperature liquid. The heat is transferred from the refrigerant to the outside air by flow through the condenser coil.
The accumulator (not shown) is located on the left side of the main engine frame. The primary function of the accumulator is to separate refrigerant liquid that passes through the evaporator coil from the liquid vapor. The accumulator retains the separated liquid and releases the vapor to the compressor.
The accumulator on the newer D9R (ACL and ABK) is larger than the one on the earlier D9R and is located below the floor plate on the left frame rail.
